small pieces of rock were all that separated me from a devatasting fall they motioned for me to climb up the scaffolding I am a guest in their land, an apprentice helping them build a library for their kids I couldn't help but shudder as I judged such slip-shod safety measures I pointed to those miserable rocks, gave a thumbs up and put on what I hope was a polite enquiring look "mai pen rai", they assured, then repeated because unconvinced, I did the look again I later climbed down the scaffolding, without any hint of injury, feeling good at how I took a stab at faith since I was sincere in working with a people different from me. **************** mai pen rai--Thai for "Never mind" |

kaile I think to take "a stab at faith", is what gets many out of bed in the morning. In which case this is a wonderful metaphor for life as well as acceptance of other's ways. Enjoyed! |
