To a Friend

Please touch me with your pain, my friend
And let me feel the ache
Dig up the earth of sorrow’s field
And share the season’s fate
Spread out the seeds of your despair
In shadows of life's trough
And spread your grief like painted strokes
Upon my furrowed brow

Please place your tears within my eyes
And let me cry a few
You’ve pain enough for both of us
And tears enough for two
Sometimes the sky is much too dark
And burdens are too great
Please let me breath your sighs, my friend
And carry half your weight

I cannot walk your path, you say
I cannot feel your pain
Nor can I understand the way that
Scars of life remain
You say it is enough to know
How much I really care
And comfort of the spirit is
A friend who’s always there

I am here
Liz

My, the compassion in this loving write is most moving.

And it truly helps. You are the best. A wonderful write.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Lizzie, you are good and in so many way.  Nice to know you mean all you say, m'friend as that is the most heart-warming poem for "a friend" in need, who will be warmed to the core with your sweet soul.  You have that way about you, but have to tell you this time you did make me cry with your kindness.

If we each had someone who cared for us this way...and expressed it so well....if only.

But one who needs it now does have you, and that's an example for all of us.

In my opinion: you are already doing that all your life Elizabeth, being a friend, carrying burdens, easing pains of people you care about.

I'll be here to carry yours my friend
You may lean upon my shoulder
When the burden has become too heavy
But I too, am getting a bit older

You have a heart so full of joy
Your sweet spirit will never die
You will always be the Queen
Because your words are telling why

Hugs, Titia

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

THank you al;l so much for your comments
and Titia, what a lovely response. I still look back on your visit with fond remembrance and we still talk of your times alone in the playhouse.
THanks

Reading this meant a lot at this time. It can be hard to carry another's burden, but we can always try.

This is really beautiful.. and more..

what a friend your friend has..

how fortunate...

it does mean something, you know, when someone tells you I don't know or understand your pain, but I wish I could share the burden of it just for a while...

lovely
