"Am I too late?"

He

could never have been on time

it didn't exist

for us

anymore.

Did it ever?

We were so

out of joint,

premature

even within our delay.

We seem to collide

over the years

as if to see

if we're ready

this time

I laugh aloud

at perfect timing

shrill

letting my weakness show.

I cannot help

toying with time

wondering when

my words will reach his ears

and how

he will hear my answer

"No..and yes."

Well done.  Sometimes it's like that, yes?

Really, a thought-provoking poem.  My favorite kind.  This one moves really well and I find nothing but talent oozing from the text.  Your poem was a fine find for me.  Thanks for allowing me to read it.

Hey, Gemma-girl.
This is a way cool poem. I love this part...

We were so

out of joint,

premature

even within our delay.

Makes the reader think.
Hugs,
Ethel Mae

Had to chuckle to myself when reading this Gem 'cause it described so well one of my favorite ex-obsessions...
Every couple of years she and I would run into each other and before long we'd get to thinking (usually due to our alcohol altered perception...lol) that we were somehow better equipped to make a success of things this time around.  Took us a few years, but we finally figured out that some matches just aren't meant to stay lit...
