The Intimacy of Waiting Intimate skin I’ve touched it yes felt the fold and firm not thought of loss no not yet it’s too early for that burn Even though I know that suddenly is what is counted rare it has spent time in my tear ducts and it has brought despair I am looking for my courage so my face holds him with peace but I’ve lost my hold on positive and I want to scream release Listen how the music of the birds is just the same and the countless aching shadows still fall quietly in blame for the sun so slowly moving across the sky I feel its pull and the restless cricket sounding in my heart I feel this purr that would cancel this already known or let me see the light so that I don’t need wait longer for the words night after night But time has no forgiveness nor does empathy allow any other option covered in a live forever gown so I catch the special moment and I covet the heartbeat and do the only thing I know I wait here patiently |

I know this... the time of 9/11 and memoriams were being held when I was with my husband during brain surgery... we thought he was scheduled to go in on that very day; he went in for surgery 7 days later... during memoriam... I turned up the TV in the waiting room; and finally, everyone turned from their selfish, intimate, thoughts - but you should have heard the ones talking of not their loved ones, but of matters so trivial... it was incoherent in my mind... and to the world...where so many lost so many... Oh yes, I know.... and I am with you, now. And always. |

Amongst the pearl divers of the East (now an almost extinct breed of island women) there was always a mix of pride and pragmatism. Pride in exaggerating the depth to which she could dive and pragmatism in admitting there were real limits beyond which she would not survive. Each diver knew her own limits and could point with equal pride to another who might far exceed those limits. You have brought pearls in this, from a depth I can never reach. Thank you. |

My daughter recently told me she prayed for patience. I told her to be careful what she prayed for because what we ask for, we are usually tested on. Sorry, you're poem got me to thinking. Any poem that can do that is terrific! .....jo |

Well I do believe this is the very first time I have asked to be intimate with another woman Martie but I would truly be honored to have someone lean on me if they had to. |

"But time has no forgiveness nor does empathy allow any other option covered in a live forever gown so I catch the special moment and I covet the heartbeat and do the only thing I know I wait here patiently" So lovely, Martie, and so true for us all. |

Yes, sometimes this is enough....Martie, this is beautiful and it's the first poem I've read since I've been back, what a treat. Love this! Melissa~ Intellectually I know that Canada is no better than any other country. Emotionally I KNOW that Canada is the best country in the world! |

Hi Martie, A very touching, emotional piece. There is peace in this, but also pain. Fave lines: it has spent time in my tear ducts and it has brought despair Love your new pic, btw! Looks like Marina Del Rey! Corinne |

"Listen how the music of the birds is just the same and the countless aching shadows still fall quietly in blame for the sun so slowly moving across the sky I feel its pull and the restless cricket sounding in my heart I feel this purr that would cancel this already known or let me see the light so that I don’t need wait longer for the words night after night" I first read this shortly after you posted Martie, and each time since, it has been these lines that stood out for me. I remember walking out onto the porch of a friend's home, the morning she passed away, and thinking how odd it was that the birds were singing, just like they had the day before. The incongruity of the two realities shook me and I've never forgotten it. |
