You’ve given me a yellow rose,
A gift of friendship which has bloomed;
A lovely thought, but now I know
That any thought of love is doomed.

But what’s more precious than a friend?
I’ll live life worthy of this gift,
The friendship due to you I’ll send,
And prayers for you to God I’ll lift—

***

Somewhere between back then and now
I found that sometimes we will bleed,
Through hurting hearts to push the plow
And in the furrows plant the seeds,

In sacrifice we gave our hearts,
In friendship took a crown of thorns,
And though my soul was torn apart
Through death a newer life was born—

***

I kept that rose for many years,
And found that through the pain endured
The soil was sprinkled by my tears,
And unexpected joy occurred:

As blood was dripping from my hand
It fell upon the yellow rose,
And sacrifice, the way God planned,
A rose of red has now composed!

I thought your poem was fantastic.  I know what it's like to get the "yellow" rose from someone I love and have "friendship" throw a wrench in there.  Although, I was friends with my wife first usually you end up heartbroken.  Thanks for sharing it.

Great poem,

Nice writing...most relationships will stop at a friendship...very few go past that...sometimes we want to take it past that...but after a while we (I)figure out the consequences....James

An amazing poem; it just has to go back to the top so more can see it.  It touched me, oh, so deeply.

Another wonderful write.

nothing false or sincere.
Everything is straightforward
