passing's fullest measure

were our parting never sorrowed
were our leaving never felt
‘twould be passing’s fullest measure
when our mem’ries clearly faded
when our moments surely failed

were we the ilk of those forgotten
were we the talk of memoirs past
‘twould be loss’s final chapter
when those we love reminisce no more
when those we left behind have let us go

then we are free to be forgotten
remembered not though stains of tears
or simple moments once reflected
in hearts and minds we held so dear

o, freedom, ‘tis not for thee i pine
recluse me from this band of life
and chain my soul to someone near
and let the loss, when there is loss, be kind
