As a little boy I was told insanity is bliss; throughout my strange and twisted life this thought has surfaced from the mist countless times in countless ways and often I would ponder what it meant; finally, just accepting that I didn't really care, I was still bewildered by the number of happy people here, but if they're happy I'm confused, they're beaten, stomped on and abused, they seem to cry a lot and even tear their hair. Almost as sport we plunder, murder, rape and burn; I wonder if we'll ever learn the Reaper gets us all eventually. I've really never understood; if insanity's reality always founders on the rocks of fantasy, and if in breaking open sets us free to wander blissfully along the empty sands, the soul's almost unceasing quest throughout eternity thirsty and alone, then why do we return in what feels like endless lives absorbing all the punishment we can? Of course, I can't hold that against a happy man. ©2004 by icebox |

happy people...I wonder if they exist...somehow I'm not so sure anymore. Who knows? I just live the best I can, and it feels good to know that there is an end here eventually. |

Icebox - these are things I've thought about, too. I think I've come to the conclusion that happiness is a state of mind and a choice we make, and so is insanity -- I might be wrong, I mean after all there's genetics to consider -- but then again, maybe we choose that, too. Thought provoking poem enjoyed........jo |

I think happiness is hope. An ability to see the rainbow through the clouds. To catch a drop of falling rain and see its beauty. And would we know joy if not for sorrow? Happiness is the ability to overcome and be the better for it. Happiness is recognizing the best in those around you and in yourself, Yes? Smiles -- Susan The whole of the Universe resides within each individual heart. |

First, I want to thank you all for taking time on a holiday weekend to read my ramblings, and still be willing to comment; second, please know that by "here" I did not mean PiP, I meant here, on this path of existence, here on this planet, here, in this species. passing shadows ~ To seek the best possible outcome, for the largest number of people, for the longest period of time...and always to leave yourself a way out, may be the best we can do. Eventually, there is an end to this. *smile* 1slick_lady ~ *smile* Well, sometimes I do fake it. MGROVES ~ *laugh* I often ask the same question when I am asked if I am happy. iliana ~ *smile* We choose more than we recognize. Susan ~ *grin* Yes, I seldom recognize happiness in myself. |

icebox happiness is so fleeting...like the twitch of first smile on a newborns face...was it real? I think the faces that we see as happy may just be frowns turnd around in some grand designer's idea of funny. |

I think we all have experienced happy moments, but, no one lives a truely happy life,,,,,from start to finish, I'd say thats impossible,,,,maybe those "insane" people wandering along talking to no one, or sitting in a drug induced haze in the corner,,,,are the ones that saw reality was too sad, and found a happy place to hide... Michelle I wish all could find the true happiness I have found,,in the eyes of Mike |

Happiness... what a weird concept. Not one I understand, definitely not one I know. But the people I know who say they're happy? They always hurt other people (from what I've seen anyway) because the shoulder they offer only lasts five minutes, and the need for a shoulder lasts forever... You know, you're one of those people that would be fun to just listen to. I think you could teach us all a lot. Excellent poem. i believe there is something beautiful and freeing about insanity when it is used in a loving and creative way; if that makes sense at all......... |

"but if they're happy I'm confused, they're beaten, stomped on and abused, they seem to cry a lot and even tear their hair." *nod* Sometimes they just have to in order to live within their own skin... "cast me gently into the morning, for the night has been unkind" |
