The Powder I

I powder in the mortar bowl
Dowering the grime of goal
The pestle goes around in rhyme
And bustle’s me in changing time

It is a process of the age
Of timing going stage to stage
A pinch of salt of little spice
But adds a tittle to the rice

The rice is scattered and is fed
Rebirths the form in subtle wed
Makes a field of living gleam
On which I lie and write this theme

It’s little in a changing course
Where all I know subdues to force
But in the rivers turning bend
I would my mark my living end

And so I sail the breeze with thee
I be with you, you be with me.
