An Ode to Hermit Crabs |

My Muse is a little testy tonight........ I’ve read all day until my eyes have bled Listened to the many, many talking heads And all I know is absolutely null. The universe is much too vast, too tall To understand it all. I’ve interviewed the ones who know the best Who told me truth I cannot put to rest And all I know is absolutely null. The universe is much too vast, too tall To comprehend it all. I’ve dug through archives of Egypt’s ancient tombs. Watched the frothed tide's pull upon the moon And all I know is absolutely nada. The universe is vast, why the bother? The notion of enlightenment is worthy But which horse won last week’s derby? The universe is much too vast, way too tall. I am but a grain of sand drowning on the shore, covered with sea weed and more, waiting for Poseiden's command to change the tide and lay me on dry land, exposed, again unsheltered, d e -- r a n g e d. Hermit crabs, I understand. [This message has been edited by iliana (05-14-2004 12:20 PM).] |

Smarty Jones is the winner! I enjoyed the way you analogized your feelings... but please, don't ever feel like something like seaweed or hermit crabs for that is much the same. |

Opeth, you're a sweetie! I don't really feel like this although I am somewhat of a hermit -- in reality, it's more like I am holding a seive and sifting the sand if you know what I mean. My work requires me to interview people and do a lot of reading and watching news, thus the talking heads. and thanks for post. .......jo [This message has been edited by iliana (05-14-2004 03:54 AM).] |

MGROVES -- thank you, glad you did. Apologies for my muse's kind of sour tone tonight -- she/he (whatever) needs to get out and have some fun -- and lighten up a little! |

Very nice. Good rhythm, and a great metaphor. Keep up the good work! I believe the most important component of a poem is rhythm. Rhythm is the heartbeat of a poem. It is what makes poetry poetry. |

Ah for the life of a hermit crab, where I can be alone and people expect me to be crabby. Lovely expression in this. Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind. Unknown |

iliana, Loved this one. I really liked your first verse and how you led from there to the sand and hermit crab. Yes, sure it is a vast and tall uni verse or, better yet, perhaps a multi-verse! Take care, Love, Sadie |

Jo, a testy muse is better than no muse at all. A pondering write. I shall have my sisters think on this one. |

The more we know, the less we understand. For me it isn't that I don't know, but that I don't know why! Nice job. Ken Through rubble and trouble and dark of night |
