”See a penny pick it up all the day you’ll have good luck” It shone in the half light Beneath the streetlight in the gutter by the drain, Midst the cast away, A newspaper of yesterday moistened by the rain, Twigs and a cola can Below where I stand leaning on my walking cane, Fallen from someone pocket Maybe seen and forgot it leaving it there to remain Till someone would bend So little effort to spend for a touch of luck to claim. But would no one bother The luck there to gather so I tossed another just the same. A pair of pennies to take If a little effort they’d make to gather from the drain. Gloom |

Grin... To know the worth of a penny is in itself the basis of all wealth. This was great! TD |

Professor, This sounds the reverse of something written in my father's genealogy. I've planned someday to write about it. To make a long story short, the family moved from the east coast to Pacific in a conestoga wagon. When they got there, they had one coin left. They threw it into the ocean to begin anew. (Amused by your title and poem.) Enjoyed. I, too, saw many directions this could take. Excellent writing. Sadelite [This message has been edited by Sadelite (04-07-2004 01:37 PM).] |

Nodding. I used to pass the pennies by... I mean, it's just a penny, right? I still do sometimes, but not without thinking thoughts very much along the lines of these. Thanks gloom, every now and then, I hit on a poem and find someone else thought the same thing I did and I feel a bit less lonely. Come to think of it? That happens alot with you. |
