Writing on the wall, my own...
what’s to do but cross my arms
and shrug
in disregard of your appraisal.

I never asked to be loved.
I only needed enough
to take the edge off
being alone.

Another day in paradise
hangs before me
an elusive noose.

I remember thinking
it would be a day or two
that I’d amuse,
but here
I nod at the recognition
of my expire,
however imperceptible
small murders
among the likes
of me
may be.

That's a slap upside the head...
your muse did you proud...
ask her to stay
so you can do it
again!

Dunc, good to read you!

People dismiss others in many different situations in inhuman and unforgivable ways.

keeping this...love how it ends.

What a fantastic verse Duncan~  Even if it is "in my face"

I liked this too...

Another day in paradise
hangs before me
an elusive noose.  *choke*

Heck, the entire poem was right on the mark!

No doubt, paradise is a nice place to visit,
but it seems as soon as we get there,
it's time to come home.

This made me feel like I was lying in fetal position slowly moving back and forth, after having my heart stripped of it's vitality.

And yet I enjoyed it, thanks.

It's midnight..so I thought I would pop this to the top of daily topics...

just because it's that good..

made me smile with it's simplistic truth.

So, what do Phil Collins and John (Cougar) Mellencamp have in common with this poem? Duncan!

I really liked this one D - it's harsh, hard, to-the-point and could have come only from your pen. That's one of the things about you that catches me the most; a distinctive style that aligns quite nicely with my warped view of the world. Tres cool, kudos and the like - I've never had an admixture of two songs stuck in my head at one time...
quote:
You can tell from the lines on her face
You can see that she’s been there
Probably been moved on from every place
’cos she didn’t fit in there
quote:
Say uh, oh yeah life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin is gone
