How much talent do we take and destroy That someone fighting to understand Something Called talent That no-one in their life understands Taking a seeing person And turning them blind Dismissing them We need everyone in this life And everyone is some one How much do we have to try and destroy The things we dont understand Dave |

Yes, Dave. I am very aware of this. We are so quick to make assumptions based on silly things. The man or woman lying on a sidewalk once a professor or a doctor seeming to be worthless by the passerby. The simple person without worldly possessions who is discounted because of appearance, the list goes on. I encountered a farmer once with dirty overalls and soiled shoes --twenty years ago -- nobody wanted to service him, opened up a suitcase with $50,000 cash to buy a house. Yes, I learned never to judge a book by its cover. Good thoughts here, thanks for the reminder. SG |

Yes, in our present state of imperfection we have to continually work at remaining unselfish in order to really enjoy being ourselves...Giving truly is better...... And, that ain't no easy task baby! Ask the mothers of the world. Eric |

Yes everyone is someone! We all are enriched by each other. You are right, so much incredible talent remains hidden, unexpressed, unnoticed ... Thank you, your need to write, makes us ponder always. Love, Margherita |

Dave, I truly enjoy your work-You have a keen eye. I'm glad you have the need to write because we have the need to hear. Your poetry is often so profound that I don't know how to respond. This one was easy for me because I'm in a home where my poetry is not appreciated as an art form. It's tolerated and expected because I'm too stubborn to quit, but it is unappreciated. It doesn't help one's self-esteem. I did not realize you had difficulties in vision. Now, I am even more grateful for minimalistic poetry. When my bifocals aren't on straight, they drive me crazy and cause me frustration in reading, disturbing my comprehension. (Would it be helpful if I double space my responses?) I admire you for continuing to read and write. I thought your poem was straight shooting and excellent. Sadie [This message has been edited by Sadelite (03-26-2004 08:35 PM).] |

It's not our job to destroy, Dave, I agree. Sometimes people miscommunicate and even miscommunication causes destruction... and how do we repair that -- I guess, silence is golden sometimes... but then sometimes people construe silence for something else -- there's the rub. See how much you made me think about with your short write -- now, that's poetry when it evokes thought! to you sweet man |

my first poem written in 3rd grade was put in newspaper. my family shot me down. i didnt try again untill 9 years ago. same as my art in 7 th grade. my music . when i find something that i do good and feel good. it gets taken and never a chance to grow. well i stopped right after starting, as my significant other teased, tormented, and put it down. now i am trying to let it come back and grow. not easy. i see it happen to alot of talented people why cant people appreciate and encourage. any way thanks for sharing. i enjoy reading what you write thanks |

Hi, Dave. There sure are drawbacks to being human. Sometimes it seems that no matter how much we try to be "loving and giving" it always rebounds in unpleasant ways. So, not only do we destroy but in turn get destroyed. Perhaps there's just no understanding the human race. Someone once told me to "be strong" - it seems to be good advice. |
