A Life So Long Ago~

I possessed another description then you
Straightforward character seeking my own concerns
Fevered pitch at first you were, a Hartford nightmare
My free-flying slapstick career, lead me to dizzy altitudes…then
How naive, how utterly pre-eminent was the veil
The one you so cleverly lifted, while tripping over dental floss
Feeding me essay of fiction, the ones “you” wrote

But….you, my wine and dinning, walking BBC were
Thornier then ever imagined
Typical Thirty-some struck a chord with women everywhere
Writing the complete fourth season of the Sopranos
Oh, that jet black hair of yours
The good ol boys from New Jersey

We were never in the house at the same time
But survived Christmas
Sausage, parmesan cheese and olive oil
Filled impressions in our stuffing ~
Became my quiet life

Selling violets on a street corner
Soon turned to sour vinegar
Fate grabbed me by the throat
Shaking a brand new culture outa me
Of which I had only seen on the Big Screen
You were so Hollywood, so adapted
A blue-eyed boy…crooner like Frank Sinatra
Getting thoroughly lost in your music

Tied to your mother’s dining room table
Not fun stuff entirely…
As you insisted on exchanging a few words
With the Heart of Darkness…two stepping
Around my contemporary wilderness…
Bringing me into a modern life
Serving moralistic satire to the Pope

Which gained only moderate success…?
Contrasting human emotion…oh how you brooded
My country rustic setting and melodramatic short stories
You said, I’d starve trying
Your tan skin wore the face of adversity
Blaming my motivation, simplicity was to me immortal
Born in Pennsylvania, learned to sew and dream
Bout Jane Eyre and Kipling

I was happy before I died ~

Life was a university and governess
Unforgettable heroine in spirit
You thought I was your imaginary kingdom
And altered the color of my hair

Didn’t blame you for the world I left
Or for the snobbery of Self-importance
Nor the splinter you hammered in my eyes
It was the constant war stories you read
Bringing Alive…Bridges over Madison County
You’re hunting & fishing trips
Remember the ones when, you forgot your gun and pole?

Well sir…not long after, a foremost prophet held me
For a while…I fell over the side
He jumped in and rescued me, showing me the other side!

Together we watched “Sense and Sensibility”! ~
Feeding me a college breakfast…my night in shining armor
Of London Fields! Big Ben Chimed like never before!
Until all the nightmares ran away
His whimsical charm…landscaped green, my entire world
In a new direction, one of fidelity screaming
Wake Up Maggie!
Ever since, I’ve been leaving behind a legacy
Would have loved to see your face
When you read my article in the newspaper that day
The one you said…was a forbidden place
For girls like me…I was supposed to be Mrs. Cleaver
With a musty old wardrobe in a snow filled land of creatures

Yup, yup, yup…both paid my dues and gave at the office
Thank God for the Red Cross….
And a tiny little red Fiaro…who made house calls

Excellent write, full of ups and downs and searching around. With the growth of a latex cover to bounce back. Enjoyed

There is a lot here that I truly love.

All that led to this, for instance:

"I was happy before I died ~"

That one line is so sadly impactful, and perfectly sums up the weight of the emotion.

and here:

"Didn’t blame you for the world I left
Or for the snobbery of Self-importance
Nor the splinter you hammered in my eyes
It was the constant war stories you read
Bringing Alive…Bridges over Madison County
You’re hunting & fishing trips
Remember the ones when, you forgot your gun and pole?"

Yes.

I enjoyed this offering very much.

Sis this took my breath away. The images drawn by your hand are magnificent.
