Withered

Like the forsaken leaves of last summer’s
hurrah so too are my dreams. Crumbled, brown,
and dead. There is no Miracle-Gro that
could enliven what’s withered, no humus
that could inveigle fresh growth from my rind.
Decomposition has taken the best
