i've never been so wasteful in my life
and they say time is a precious thing
i didn't sleep at all
after i saw dead cars last night

went to the car graveyard so unknowing
i am scarred by rusty coffins
the images haunt me from suffocating dark
they were piled on top of each other
the airbags were limp in the crumbled front seats
ashy checkbooks hung open on the ground
identities still radiating from the rubble
faces i've never known screaming my name
we danced upon the roofs of death
the graveyard for beautiful destructive machines
gas tanks and engines like scattered leaves
keys still dangling from rotted ignitions
a lonely handprint on the dashboard

people died in these cars
i said to the braver ones, clutching their sleeves
but it was a game for them
as they coveted ragged clothes and licenses
laughing at how one thomas bizzet's
casualty insurance expired last month
and his volvo looked like it had thrown up on itself
they said dead on impact for sure

i was the only one who descended into hell
each time a flashlight shattered the black to see
the butchered frame of life
i was the only one who shuddered when
the insides of a jeep touched my skin
and when they found the child seat
which was no longer inside the car
and a church calendar
and a pair of men's shoes
and groceries
i knew a person well enough
to cry for random loss
and face the punishment for wandering thoughts
these afflictions seem so ridiculous
but thomas bizzet will testify
these ghosts that live inside me now
no one will ever understand
a piece of me died in those cars last night

and i can tell you what needles my flesh
and that nothing i fear is real
but each whole car i see
has a price to pay now
for being so reckless
ask the ruptured headrests
cargo has never been so precious
and we have never been so wasteful

joy has its own justice. and dreams are languid and lawless. and everything bows to beauty, when it's fierce and when it's flawless...

O MY GOD.....I LOVE IT! THIS BLEW ME AWAY.

i'm keeping this.

Beauty of the world which is soon to perish has two edges, one of laughter and one of anguish, cutting the heart asunder.
