Daisies and tulips were springing, Adorning the face of the hills; Sparrows and finches were singing A lighthearted chorus of trills. Sunlight came brilliantly streaming To ease me away from my rest, To lull me awake from my dreaming— I couldn't have been more depressed. Now all the flowers are drying; The hills are unbearably bleak; The sunlight appears to be dying; No bird ever opens its beak. Their songs are replaced by the bomber With orders to seek and destroy... The landscape is barren and somber— I've never been so full of joy. |
