clutching the air around
in all its musty stale
I have cocooned myself
from scathing memories
who hauntingly linger
like spiders guarding webs

surely they realize
that at some spot in time
in order to subsist
I must indulge in renting
a small profligate gap
to let gasps of fresh air

in the ensuing act
of my grab at new warmth
they will clearly notice
the cracks in the thick shield
and stab through the thin scabs
of painful years gone by

"And stab through the thin scabs

Wonderful ending to a truly tantalising poem.  I think this may be the first I have read of yours and I'm really loving the style!!  Brilliant write.

well for me,  I have lived this over and over :

clutching the air around
in all its musty stale
I have cocooned myself
from scathing memories
who hauntingly linger
like spiders guarding webs

nicely done

Beauty of the world which is soon to perish has two edges, one of laughter and one of anguish, cutting the heart asunder.
