On Turning 55 No one seems to want an aged person skilled in some, mindful in others. Wondering why I have been discarded this way and why it has taken me so long to move into the next sphere of influence. Age is no longer how you view life. It is a numeral possessing your body, running though your veins, leaving a path of aches and bruises behind when least wanted or needed. It is a picture of loneliness when he goes after the younger version, thinking there is more there than what he has had in his touch. It is scraping the barrel of .coms coming face to face with frauds and toothless smiles and dump living thinking you must be so needy as to accept the crumbs offered. It is knowing that and preparing for "the inevitable..." waiting for it to show up and take me home. M "Love is not blind - It sees more and not less, but because it sees more, it is willing to see less." |

Do you really think a mere number has that much control? I think only if you let it... and you still have plenty to offer. "sit on top of the world and tell me how you feel...'cause what you feel is what I feel for you.." |

Now, dear Maureen, aren't you a beautiful girl of 55! Who cares about numbers? This is a touching write, but probably written in a melancholic moment. Yes, youth maintains its charm, but it lacks significant aspects that you only are blessed with with time ... Way to go, girl! Love and hugs. Margherita |

It's just a number that numbers our days, that's what's scary! I am right behind you girl friend. My Mom used tell me when I was a kid and asked how old she was, she said, 29 forever...I'll be happy with 49 forever! Love your poem, and you~ |

Maureen - beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and how you feel inside. If you feel old then you will look old. You certainly don't look old. Quit going for the .coms and the toothless bunch - go for something younger than you and have a wonderful time. At our age, it is just a number and right now I am Jack Benny's sister at age 39. |
