Riding the Greyhound (Sleeping in the Rear Seat – Part 2) Morning awoke me with cramped muscles, a huge urge to tee-tee, utter surprise to find she was real, a desire not to disturb her, or me, but a need to do what had to be done . . . I woke her, told her what was real. She sat up, looked at me, smiled, opened the bathroom door – stepped in – left me, hurting. More ways than one. We shared a sandwich, she had – peanut butter, strawberry preserves, slightly stale bread – sat together on one corner of the rear seat, strangers, having slept together, not lovers, not quite friends, bound by need of company, riding the Greyhound to a destination, somewhere. Somewhere. wesley james beard, jr. (c) february 2004 |

I don't know how you are doing it, but I'm actually missing the old Greyhound here-- "all aboard"? yep, I'm riding on to Part III now. (and the ride is quite lovely) |

having slept together, not lovers, not quite friends, bound by need of company, riding the Greyhound to a destination, somewhere. Somewhere. sounds like wishful thinking us be lovers we’ll marry our fortunes together’ ’I’ve got some real estate here in my bag’ So we bought a pack of cigarettes and mrs. wagner pies And we walked off to look for america ’kathy,’ I said as we boarded a greyhound in pittsburgh ’michigan seems like a dream to me now’ It took me four days to hitchhike from saginaw I’ve gone to look for america |
