You screamed at me to listen but I knew what you would say you don't know me you only see what you want. You screamed at me to listen and tore my hands from my ears I lost all reason then as past fears flooded in. It hurt more when you called me selfish over and over again than when your fist hit my spine you don't know me, it hurts more that you believe so strongly that I am so selfish. I knew I had to leave then before one of us got hurt I knew I had to leave then because I wasn't seeing you, I was seeing him. It was a long road, with no shoes but if I had to I would have run until my feet bled. Because I wasn't seeing you, I was seeing him. I know you didn't mean to hurt me and I didn't mean to scream that I hate you so why did you push, and why did I scream? It was a long walk, with no shoes a lonely road with everyone staring and not stopping. I ran out of breath before the end and collapsed to let my tears fade I took the road slower when I got up and the pebbles dug into my feet. I didn't have time to grab my shoes I could only dart for the door I didn't have time to grab my shoes you would have had me again. And I know one of us would have gotten hurt because you were mad and I was afraid, I hate to be afraid. The past floods my mind, I see his fist and his face the reaction I learned all those years ago is to lash out when Im afraid. I don't know pain and you don't know mercy. The tunnel grew colder as the day wore on the writing on the wall said, "You don't understand" I knew the words rang true. Those three simple words were so profound to me I applied them to you, and they explained everything. I don't know pain and you don't know mercy. I wasn't seeing you, I was seeing him. W.W. We were meant to live for so much more have we lost ourselves? Maybe redemption has stories to tell maybe forgiveness is right where you fell. This poem certainly moved me. I love this kind of thing, when people express their emotions as well as making it an interesting piece of writing rather than JUST venting anger. Well done. Peace |

Its been awhile since I have read your work, and I am SO glad that I read this. I feel so much compassion for you, after reading this. It sounds like its about your boyfriend, who was violent and reminded you of your dad. WOW. These lines struck me hard: "I don't know pain and you don't know mercy" "a lonely road with everyone staring and not stopping." Excellent write, and if it is a true story. I hope things improve hun. ~Lex |

Thank you all so much for your replies, they mean alot to me. Lexy: Thank you for your heartfelt reply. Actually it's about my sister. She wasn't reminding me of my dad, same story, just a different person. Again, thank you so much for the reply! W.W. |
