Harvey’s Birthday Written on December 6, 2003 Lying there on the couch, waiting For any sign that it’s coming. Getting anxious ~ I’m due today Suddenly ~ a twinge ~ nothing new Been having them for the past month Lying there, twinges getting closer Wondering if this is it I close my eyes and wait ~ For another twinge ~ there it is Out at the store ~ twinges are close Watch revealed every five minutes And lasting one and a half In the back of my mind ~ Thinking “My god, this is it.” At home, lying in the bathtub He tells me I gotta get out And that it’s coming soon A twinge hits, as he helps me out “Let’s get to the hospital” On the way, twinges getting close Only they’re not twinges now Pain in my lower back and belly At the hospital nurse says 3 cm She puts me on a monitor “Your contractions are 3 minutes apart, If you want, you can go for a walk, Just be back within an hour” Walked to the waiting area Twinges getting unbearable Squeezing my dad’s hand ‘til it ends Sitting there, wanting to cry Starting to feel hard pressure Mom and dad tell me to get back ~ To let the nurse check me again She looks up, smiles “Hun, you’re at eight” All I could say was “Oh my God” “Call the doctor, she’s getting close” As Dr Nathan walks in ~ The nurse tells me I’ve almost made it It’s too late for the epidural Whimpering at the thought of that The nurse reassures me greatly By telling me the hardest parts over The doctor looks up and smiles “I’m going to break your water” A huge gush of water ~ Followed by the urge to push Lying on my side, the pain seems gone Replace with the pushing reflex With two or three good pushed The head is out ~ and a hand The doctor grabs the hand and waves Saying “hello mommy ~ Just one more good push for me.” One last push and my baby’s here, They place it on my belly ~ It spreads its legs and ... It’s a Boy!! Harvey Wayne Webber October second, Two thousand Three 11:49 P.M.Seven pounds 14.6 ounces Have you ever heard that "No shirt, No shoes" rule? My question is...Why doesn't that rule include pants? |

That was good. More like a story than a poem, but a well read poem. Looking forward to more. |
