I know it seems long but its a fun read. Battle. The mirror broken on the floor The shadow token on the door The crow crying out in fright As something new enters night Out of tales of fairy’s glee Something dreadful sent for me Stalk the patches of deepest black If it finds me I won't be back Encloaked now the shadow stood The glint of eyes beneath the hood A traveler of realms afar Of wretched shade and living scar Old bones and young skin was I Hidden menace warned me fly Tavern left and chill night found, To paths of stone that trees surround Stranger standing still as death, Bounded after with snowy breath. Still flaming were his eyes, Peering out from dank disguise. All in terror fled his wrath, As undeterred he trudged my path. Demon or fiend it followed on, I looked behind and thought it gone. Below fell trees ahead of me Waiting, laughing, was my enemy. Try as might I could not run. I stand to fight and see it done. Came he then and fighting flew My sword out flashed in blazing blue. The tortured trees a burst with flame, And howling winds of ice and rain. Combatants chancing life and limb, Rage of battle and deaths own whim. Vengeful hatred outside of time; We danced with death, song, and rhyme. Blade was bright, steel was tight His unhooded helm seethed with light Shade thought I, or shadow you die! From him out came a thundering cry. Charged and slashed as brothers grim I slowly staggered away from him. How black his blood, how black his mind, How black his thoughts he left behind. His armor rang out upon the stone. I left him there to die alone. Neither night nor day can give me purchase only purged dust on earth can avenge the worthless. |
