Out of the front door, The Western Front. War on Public transport and irate Shoppers. Cracks in the pavement. Cracking families that Scream in their Volvos. Trees die to the side Of the road. Punctuated by Dog **** . The Environmentalists Try to persuade it's global Warming. The cynics say It's just autumn. The street hums with restruant Conversation emptiness, And Land Rovers. Endless Land Rovers. Turn into the main road Where man meets cafe. Unaware That the service charge isn't Included. Dips and valleys criss-cross Pavements and fling themselves Into the road. The cars never Stop. The cracks perpetuate. Impatient lions and tigers Growl at children, as they Parade their innocence over The hide of a slaughtered zebra. Safety first, creativity second. And now safely across, The pub. Children are steered Away lest they should see their Fathers. Under new management. But it's still the same. It's just that Now people get thrown out of the Back door. NO DRINKING ON THE FORECOURT means NO DRUNKARDS ON THE FORECOURT. Past the cememtery and all those Famous Dead Guys. The high street tends to get people Down. The toy shop's orange Walls keep the youthful Glow radiating whilst the Play things are securely Locked away in cupboards. The last scene in the montage, The Mercedes dealership (save the best Till last). And mid-life crisis aged men Make new child against New car cost comparisons, While their wives pick Baby names in the dwindling Light of the village hall. |
