No one tells me what to do Or how I should perform Writes reports on who I am Those past long days are gone Paid my debt now reap reward Did it in advance I would do the same again Given second chance People think I’mcrazy Others maybe even barmy Risking life and limb for who? In the Flippin Army I’m not one bit silly Crafty too…that’s right Always on the winning side When I pick a fight I got a mental discharge But it’s only in my head Take me on try me out One wrong move your dead |

My mothers now heaven She fought a battle long Sons went to join the Army Join in the loyal song Fathers dead cremated Was in the force as well Some think he went to heaven Some think he went to hell I am still around intact I laugh a lot and smile My son joined the Army too They make it worth his while So while you sit deciding If your money is well spent Just decide who’s on your side Don’t stay sat on the fence This world is meant for all Not just the chosen few Some one has to police it Our lives won’t wait for you Do you earn your freedom? Do you really care? Just sat on your backside Glad that you aren’t there? |

I have to thank you. I was one of those people who thought, "I'll never go to war. Sacrifice my life for the sake of people I don't know, never." But your simple poem opened my eyes to the sacrifices they make for me. Even though they don't know it, they are protecting me. Thanks for correcting my ignorance. bred to bleed bred to lead product of a father's seed. I see this cycle carried on until the final war is won. but only when you finally fall will people notice you at all. for army folk and army brats are simply politicians stat's so waste not words upon this site for soldiers must stay out of sight I'll take you on for I see through the armour plate you see that's you for still within there beats a heart you carried as you played your part. |

What is that inner battle Choosing right from wrong The Devil is the winner He has been all along For in a private moment You can’t make any choice Caution out the window You hear the inner voice Be careful what you say Know each direction well Every path will take you One more step twards Hell Eric Lance Davies |

Dear Fairplay, I enjoyed your poem. I noticed all your responders so far are from England, and I think that's a pity. I think folks over here are nervous about your style of verse. They hardly read Kipling's verse over here any more either, except for a few steady fans. Good to see the tradition being carried on. Thank you! BobK. |

Hi I know it's a little late but thanks all for your comments. Just got back on site after a "Break" now living in Vancouver Canada though still an Englishman with a home in the Lake District. Hope to look up some of the things I have missed here in due course... Eric |
