On this cold cold night, the snow and the wind are wildly blowing Sitting before my fire, this helps keep me warm Living way out here, in this place away from all, I really must always be on guard The snow was supposed to have already stopped, but we are in some kind of snow storm. My heart would go out to any one out on a night like this To my surprise I hear a light tapping on my door Wondering why anyone would be out on a night touched by a blizzard's kiss I get up and go to the door with no idea of what's in store. Opening the door and looking down, there stands a child with a forlorn look in here eyes Bringing her in, I sit her in front of the fire "Why are you outside?" in my mind I have a hundred whys Not understanding why, but I know she must be tired. As she warms herself by the fire, I ask her if she would like something to eat She nods her head no, explaining she was lost trying to find her way home Having no phone, I could not call her parents, so I offer her a warm bed and she says, " Oh, boy, what s treat" I give her my very own bed, but stay in the same room as she does not want to be alone. Waking up the next morning, to my surprise the little girl is gone I am puzzled, so I go outside to take a look The snow has stopped and the fierce wind is totally gone There should have been footprints on my porch, but there are none, so I have to take a second look. What was she? Where did she go? There are no foot prints in the snow Fear and horror through my body starts to flow Why are there no footprints in the snow? |
