As I look into the mirror at this perversion of innocence I replay the sins of my past in my mind And as the face in the mirror draws his smile My tears have long dried and stain my face Remorse picks at my flesh until it reaches my soul Leaving me nearly barren and lifeless I am inept to all but the laughter of the mirror And as my thoughts contort themselves Reality fades into darkness And the mirror becomes the only source of light Bright and wonderful it seems Taunting me with hope and forgiveness Yet the man hiding the dagger behind him Smiles with complete falsehood As I glance back at the nothingness surrounding me Reaching my hand out toward the mirror The man waving me over Inching the knife from behind his back My choices are limited This temptation seeming to be a necessity I fear the diminishing blow of the dagger But control is denied as I push away As I slip deeper into the light I regain what is left of my withered soul And am released from this hold Scared and worn from my ongoing battle I again close my eyes to the mirror Until my guilt awakens me once more |

Wow! This is such an amazing read for me. Very chilling and unexpected. Unexpected because of the ending, not what I thought was going to happen, but it's a kind of cynical twist to the poem. Plus the descriptiveness of the poem was wonderful! It made me create the image of what was going on inside my head; I loved reading this poem. I thought you did a brilliant job. Btw, WeLcOmE to piptalk! It's wonderful to see a new member to the site. Yet, even more wonderful that you have such an amazing talent for writing darkness. I love it Thanks for sharing! @-->--- |
