Perched waiting and watchful
You are breathing part of tree
But intruders into your domain
Realize their error when
Rapid strike proves repose is guise

Terrified rabbit anticipates demise
But feet frozen by fear will move again
For with folded wings you hurl to earth
Snake swallowed whole slithers no more

Defending mate, young and territory
Your courage is unequaled
Crass crows can bring flight to finish
But one alone isn't even challenge
It takes a mob and uneven odds
Or burst of bullet from farmer's gun

On thermals you soar
Reaching such heights
You disappear from sight
But you're aware of all beneath you
As wind delivers your scream of claim

There are magical moments
When spirits ride a poet's wings
And thoughts reach realms
Previously unimagined
On updraft of metaphor, thermal of talent
Your words give those times

Happy PIP Anniversary, my friend! *S* May this be only the first of many... PIP is a better place because you're here. *S*

With deepest gratitude to Marge Tindal ... thank you for making my pictures look so good! *S*

I love hawks. They seem to wrap the sky around them, don't they? This is a great poem, especially the bit about spirits riding a poet's wings. And yes, PIP is better with our ratleader, isn't it?

Ya got me good, Suthern gal!

Suthern -- this,
"There are magical moments

Previously unimagined

Your words give those times"

in particular, caught my fancy!  Really enjoyed this poem along with the metaphor of photos.

Seymour: You are so dear... thank you so much, my friend! *S* (And I've always secretly wanted to make a handsome man jealous... you just made my day! *G*)

garysgirl: I'm so glad you like! *S* And your picture is just lovely... thank you! *S*

Sunshine: I often feel inadequate... *S* But the only time I truly envy another poet is when I yearn to do justice to such a great one... and lack his way with words! LOL Thank you so much! *S*

Pilgrimage: It definitely is! *S* I had a wonderful time taking these pics... the subjects led me on a merry chase... they were NOT sympathetic to or cooperative with my plans! LOL Thank you! *S*

Marge: You dear. *S* Don't even try to underestimate your contribution... for I'll argue! LOL I would never have been able to superglue my prints onto the monitor screen. LOL Thank you so much, my friend... for all your help AND for your kind reception of the finished work. *S*

Martie: It's feeble repayment for the wonderful works he's given for our enjoyment and edification. *S* But I do hope it gives him smiles. *S* Thank you! *S*

Ratleader: I am so glad this pleases you... the thanks are all owed to you, my friend. *S* PIP has none finer than you... neither does the poetic world. *S* Publish... Publish... Publish. *G* Thank you so much... for liking this little gift... for the excellence you share with us regularly... and for helping me view my pen differently. *S* Happy Anniversary! *S*

Balladeer: I am so glad you like the results of my hawk-stalking... and the words inspired by both feathered and poetic flight. *S* Thank you so much! *S*

iliana: That is definitely my favorite verse... it ends the poem... but began the entire project. *S* Thank you very much! *S*

Marge: How dear you are! *S* You and Ratleader have much in common... you both destroy the myth that those who can't... teach. *S* Your willingness to help others never diminishes your own accomplishments... it only enhances your greatness... for your hearts are even more immense than your talent. *S* I thank you both for making me a better poet... and for treasured friendships. *S*

When I first read this, I felt as if you'd looked inside me and wrote of the secret things you found.....

I've thought about it all day now, and...yes, I know you did.

Thank you for sharing.

I take no credit for my poems. Although I write them, I feel
more like I transcribe them. It's just a matter of listening.

Suthern beloved one, I know you didn’t send me the link to this so I’d respond but I am simply because it is utterly, utterly, utterly beautiful work, a brilliant seamless meshing of art and poetry. Except of course your poetry is art so it’s a seamless meshing of pictorial art and poetic art, truly outstandingly beautiful work. I love it and you know I love you, and congrats to Ratleader, whose writing I enjoy for its wonderful and unique perspective on the world.

Truly exceptional writing darling one, and the pictures are stunning, but never as stunning as the one who took them
Love you always
and forever
