REUBEN

Your lips have slain my heart
Your eyes have raped my soul
You gave me a love
That I could touch but not feel
That I could see but not reach
That I could read but not hold
Our hands are scarred

My skin is home to pain
My truths are home to death
Burnt by the flame
Of a language that was lovely
Of an image that was sacred
Of a promise that was a casualty
In this war of reality

We ignored all that we feared
We gathered all we could
Our needs have been denied
By bodies that are restricted
By people that are masked
By stars that remind us
Of the charred bodies...of those we’ve left behind.

HEATHEN

There is a tremble in your voice
Tells me how you feel
There is a darkness in your eyes
Reminds me what is real

You mention me, a casual casualty
Over lunch with some friends
“has no depth to speak of” you say
“but she’s pretty…for a heathen”

There is a flicker in the flames
Tells me when he’s near
There is a softness in his touch
Reminds me there's nothing to fear

He mentions me, a fatal fatality
Over breakfast with his god
“another loving young one” he says
“but she’s pretty…for a heathen”

There is a pattern in my hopes
Tells me where I live
There is a struggle in my dreams
Reminds me what I’d give

I mention it, a real reality
Over supper with the sky
“gave it up, though they all said
I was pretty…for a heathen”

SWEETHEART THE DRUNK

I wanted...
to cut.
I wanted...
to prove.
I wanted...
to mean.
I wanted...
to soothe.

If I were with you we could resist gravity
We could fight the external
Fight the extremes
But youre seven thousand miles away
or maybe more
...maybe more.

I needed...
to feel.
I needed...
to know.
I needed...
to give.
I needed...
to show.

If I were with you we could accept eternity
We could embrace the internal
Embrace the serene
But youre seven thousand thoughts away
or maybe more
...maybe more.

GRAVITY (to Jeremy)

In the air...
just above...
eating away.

But I won’t be crushed, no.
I won’t be your evening meal.
I wont be the cherry on the top of your soul.
No one will eat me away.
No one will devour my whole.
No one but me.

Quotes are rampant...
"Chide me not..."
Everything is selfish
Must learn to be selfless
Like you taught me long ago
But...
Where did it get you?

Happiness...
Though in those fleeting final moments
Drenched in life's sustenance
And I mean not white despair
But the true sustenance
Were you as Tantalus...?
So close, suspended by the ropes
the strings that divide what is
and what might have been

Did you see
What had been hidden from you
Or was it what you already knew
That you were wasted
That it should not have happened
That this was somehow not part of the plan

Had there been...
Tears...
In your eyes at that time
No one would have known
Yet...
I’m sure that had happened before.
Yes...
I’m really quite sure.

REAL

Amongst scattered plagues
Changing all the heroes
Filter the lonesome and the needy…
Letting us rebuild ourselves.
Holding me against you
Gripping my bloodstained hands
Giving me impunity
With your electrical eyes.
Relentlessly regarding my soul
With an inquisitive stare
What started as a caress
Is now a desperate cling.
My heart
Beating at first
Is silent now, I feed on your kill
The immortal price is high.
My first death
Took its toll on you
Though
You lead me to it.
Now
Always alone in your company
My teeth in rotting flesh
Living off the destruction.
The earth is dying
Because you wish
Because I wish
To live.

Welcome to Passions, Lenore.

Your writing is lovely.  Might I suggest submitting one post at a time, to encourage more responses?  'Tis a bit overwhelming to open a display of several at once.

Pull up a chair and kick up your feet, I think you will like it here.

Wow, welcome. I have to agree with the posting one at a time. That would make it easier to read all of your pieces, but I love them all the same.

Welcome to Passions. Take your shoes off and enjoy the stay.
