Numb

forced pink hyacinths
and blue crocus
are in baskets
by the doorway
as I breathe spring
though not bitter
this winter
holds me numb
as multicolored
blossoms cling
tightly still
to cactus
refusing to
fade and drop

I liked this very much.  It made me think about the cycles of life and those pauses that seem to act as bars separately the measures of life's music.

Nice free write. The title really threw me on off what the poem was about. You always have to keep your audience guessing.

Surrounded by living growing things, you are, living in the midst of green beauty.

Yet there is the winter within.

This is classic Helen -- inviting us in for just a tiny moment, to see a gentle heart from the inside.
