“Daddy,” says the little girl as she lies down to go to sleep. “Daddy, can I hold my doll next to me?” Tattered and torn is “Little Molly Manners”, eyes cracked, color fading, smudges and dirt. The man picks up the rag in a dress and places her next to the girl. “You need a new dolly,” he says staring at the one lone left curl. Tears well up, “Oh no, Daddy, she’s my best friend.” “Her and I will never part. We’ll be together in the end.” The man shakes his head because he just can’t understand. The little girl stares down at the doll in her hand. “Daddy, will you always love me even if I’m not pretty?” “But you’re beautiful, Baby Girl, that’s easy enough to see.” “Daddy, will you love even if I fall apart?” “Honey, you can accomplish anything with a little effort.” “But, Daddy, would you love me even if I never win?” “You’re great at everything that you take part in!” “Daddy, please listen,” pleaded the little girl. “What if I end up to be weak, would you love me still?” “You are the strongest girl I ever did see. I know you would never do anything to disappoint me.” The girl hugged her doll and shut her eyes real tight. “Goodnight, Daddy,” she said as he shut off the light. “I love you, Baby,” said the man walking out the door. “I know you do, Daddy,” she whispered, “I guess I just love my Dolly more.” |

Goodness, what a poem this is!! If we could all love unconditionally, as the little girl did her doll, wouldn't the world be a better place? ![]() Ethel |

misao - thank you. I'm glad I could evoke emotion. garysgirl - Isn't that true! And knowing that love is honest. Sometimes it may seem like you're loving someone and protecting them, when really all they need to know is it's ok to fail sometimes. Thank you. Diamond - :-) Love those smiles. Aimster - Thank you so much! I'm glad my writing could touch you. iliana - Thank you. Life teaches us many lessons. |

This is wonderful, so much meaning and truth to the realities of this world. Amazing write. Strive for higher levels, if they seem out of reach... Grow, and they will get closer. |

Thank you Thunder. You have to have truth in poetry. That's what makes it real. I'm glad you liked this peice. It was written so fast and I wasn't sure if I'd put it up, but I'm glad it could convey a message and touch people. I'm glad you enjoyed. Thank you. ![]() |
