Heating Up

It's been so long since I stoked a stove
Of lesson, I'm in need.
Funny how the fifteen years
Pass by in such a speed.

Especially when aloneness calls
For warmth to find a heart.
This fire is sure to grow on me
As zero makes its mark.

To dream of sitting arm in arm
Or cheek to cheek in hold.
I'm heating up and learning now
To make this become gold.

This warmth can never take the place
Of leaning 'gainst a beat.
But I can treasure its release
The sizzling sound of heat.

As nighttime comes, the whirring fans
Slow down to let it rise.
I climb the stairs in slow ascent,
Illusions in my eyes.

Will find me covered, quilted warm
Twice heated up in feel
Awaiting for the replay of
My dreamscapes, reel to reel.

Logging in and logging on,
And logs to silence cold.
I'm heating up in warmth of you
To feel your treasured hold~~

Hey C, good morning.

I haven't used my soapstone wood stove in 15 years (there was a fire across the street back then and it scared "the would" out of me.) It's so cold here now that I am braving the try...
and am learning how to  "start fires" once again

starting or building fires was something I grew up with and i guess it never left me. There is comfort in a wood fire. Danger, yes, but comfort as well.
stay warm!!!

danger and fear...
I go out and look at the chimney top several times a day to make sure the heat is  rising. I have an all wood house, the one across the street, with the fire, was brick.  Mine would have burnt to the ground in the time the fire dept took to put that one out.

I am  still leery, but am following "all the rules"

I like this very much... And even though I grew up with only a pot-bellied stove for heat and had a fireplace for years, I was wondering just last night if I remembered how to work a damper. *S*

I had a pot bellied one when I first came here...but it was old and not in good shape..this is a pretty one with a soapstone gray top and a glass front to see  the flames and has a cast iron kettle on, moisturizing the area...I forgot how nice it is to have a fire going.

Thanks

M.  if I were to guess,  I would imagine that
your stove is fairly new and that the
chimney is clear of soot...if the air drafts
up through the stove and out the chimney,
where the smoke doesn't come back at you,
then things are probably working just fine.

This was a very good write,  very well
written...stay warm!
