Listening to every heart

0 posted 2004-01-11 07:54 PM

A simple visit, so it seemed
to talk about the wage of age
no real concerns, we talked of stuff
and that of a writer’s sage

I finished the book

And glad was he [for his bills would be paid –
if HMO goes on a bust –
it may not be young chickens in trade,
and I was quite glad, for his trust]

“You finished the book!  Wonderful! That's fine!”
But Doc, here’s the thing, I said,
And we discussed some problems, really quite small
But he sensed my feelings with dread.

“If you're required to sit to write such,
Just to accomplish, with your touch,
Your prose, and feelings, and novels, too,
Then I think you’ve a prescription, due…

A script for the household, a laptop computer!
That would be JUST the thing!"
I smiled in his face, for I knew
To have THAT for my supper, I’d sing!

I smiled and said “No, it’s not yet quite time”
And he smiled back and simply replied,
“Then buck up my dear, for if you should rhyme,
you’ll be wanting to walk, side by side.”

Side by side isn’t it, I thought, but to myself
Though walking, I could surely do
Take my digital, snap and click for my shelf,
Photos and poetry stew.

Then there stood the birch, waiting for me
In following doctor’s orders
sluffing off its last year’s coat
seemingly in grand disorder

there stood the birch,
in newness, born
in white pale waiting to age
it could not walk
and go with me
and thereby, be my sage
it could not cry, or scream, or mope
or tap its thoughts out loud
and yet it stood in youngest prime
and spoke to me, quite proud

be like me it seemed to say and
shed the skin of gold,
prime the well and speak again
and tell the tales of old

Here, in a yard, in young of time,
Considering all that’s past
Grew a story quite out loud
And set me to my task.

So if I bore you with photos here
And there and where I’ll be
Consider the Doc, and his script
To fulfill life AND poetry…

Then next I’ll tell him, “what’s up Doc?”
And let my ticks be of the clock.

All it takes is looking with the right kind of eyes, and you, my dear have them!

Telling an agent who doesn't give a damn apart from living off you and coming home to peace but a realisation that without the agent and the book you will have to fight for the house is something that makes you, unique.

The first thought that came to my mind was...if only times lines for history class where like these, they'd be alot more fun to do. It got me thinking about time and my mortality. I like it and nice photos.

fascinating through and through, good Doc, good Doc, for sure

like your photos always, and your poetry draws one in

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

When out I go to walk myself,
(each day I try to do)
I search about the trees and crows
to find the scenes you do.
Somehow they aren't so clear to me;
I see they are to you.

Your phrasing is so clean and descriptive.  Well done!  KJ

These words really reached me.  Enjoyed this very much.
