When god created the horse
He spoke to the magnificent creature:

"I have made thee without equal.
All the treasures of this earth
lie between thy eyes.
Thou shalt fly without wings."

And as I sit and read this
I see the horse in its natural beauty.
The greatest gift you could give a king
was an Arabian mare.

The mare was generally kept inside the tent.
She was a valuable war horse,
a highly prized commodity
to be protected at the expense, if necessary,
of the wives and children.

But this is not about the struggle
of human rights,
nor about the lifestyles of the Bedouin.
It’s a song to honor the spirit of freedom,
the flights of fancy that are akin to
the spirit of the horse as
"the drinkers of the wind"

It is that very spirit
I strive to become.

Yes, Kacy, this does sound like you, and perhaps Sara, too, as she so inspired you.  What an interesting write about the spirit of freedom (drinkers of the Northwest wind).

I think you are already mostly there, at least your spirit is!  This is so true -- I fell in love with horses at an early age -- had vivid dreams of them -- and actually had a small horse at one time -- named Silver because he was white (not an Arabian, however) more like a half mule/half horse -- but oh, we could fly in the wind!

And she's off!

Seriously, the one dream I may never see is a stable full of horses [or even one] on my own property...for I would be owned by each and every one of them, and find some poetry in every emotion they stir in me.

You have every right to consider yourself a drinker of the wind...now cover the territory, and leave a wake of wonder behind.

Thank you, ladies, for reading and commenting.
I feel you are all sister spirits of the wind.
