It had been too long
between mental convergings,
                                          was it just a moment ago I heard
                                          your sounds?
and aching is this soul
by some loss
of a love never mine.

For a moment, I feared
you might have forgotten
this friend standing
                                          leaning
next to you, here, in your mind,

and I considered, were you pondering
all that could have been?

Mayhap all that shall be?

“Ifs” split atoms so well.

For we have touched
one another
in ways
unknown to lovers

as we wonder why we cannot
give and hold to our own
in this deeper fashion,
even as
genteel lines of convention
circumvent our physical,
leaving us only
lines in the mystical.

Let me line with love your thoughts
once more,
and then again,
to steel resolve that love
evolves, and
clarify the why you’ve found
your soul
in me.
