My keyboard doesn’t feel the word love
Nor does the monitor of my Dell
Life would be much simpler if
We weren’t living in Internet Hell

Inventions are meant to push us
Into newer and better ways
But this invention has become
The bane of most of my days

Without saying the words to you
Seeing your eyes change in the light
How can I know if this feeling
Is the same, that you feel tonight?

I’m tempted to just turn it off
Pack it up; move on; run and hide
Every time I reach for the switch
I feel a piece of my heart has died

Millions of people log on here each day
Looking for a love to last or to lust
How can I be sure that you are
The one my heart can trust?

Maybe we should just pretend
To be friends and nothing more
So I have another reason to stay
Surfing on the Web’s cold shore

this one struck a funny bone in me, not the haha kind but the kind that made me sit back and think of the irony of technology. Besides that I also really enjoyed the poem beautiful in its own right and sad, as well as SO TRUE!! Heh yeah anyways, nicely done, thanks for the read.

Sharon, your poem is so true of so many people nowadays. There are so many lonely folks in this great big world, both men and women. All they are looking for is a kind word. I can just imagine how many people are hurt by the deceitful ways of others on the internet, who prey on the lonely. It's very sad to me.
Hugs to you,
Ethel

I hope those reading see the dangers in the use of this new modern technology, and also the warning I read in this poem.  You can't be in love with a keyboard! The internet has provided an escape from the mundane, lonliness, bordom, and most importantly reality.  I don't believe in loving someone I can not feel, smell, or see.  It takes time to realize that escaping in fantasy is not reality.  Sadly, on a computer yanyone can represent themselves in whatever way suits them, or how the other person wishes to perceive them, and a lot of people get hurt both mentally and physically.  Sorry getting carried away, but if some do find romance on the web (and some do,) they are few and far between.

Oh and a good poem this was too

Yes, with only a screen to look at and not hearing the correct meaning of one's words or seeing the eyes shift....computer moments are sometimes Hell. Great write. Chris

I'm so glad I searched back a few days...

I love this!  I can relate to every single word.  My husband and I met through this means, and there were times that, before we actually met, our connection through this media was a bit scarey.  Thank goodness he wasn't a psycho!

I'm going to share your poem with him tonight.  Both he and I spent much time using the internet for entertainment and "what if" purposes...I'm glad to just use it for poetry now!

Very good one!

Nicely done Poet DeVine. You are so right there is another technology term out there also called "users." Be weary and trust your instincts. You did a fantastic job delivering this. Thank you.

This holds SO MUCH truth to this day and age, with people having complete other lives online sometimes... it makes one wonder which one is really the truth...   Never stop.

Strive for higher levels, if they seem out of reach... Grow, and they will get closer.

Thank you all for reading. I've learned the hard way that everyone on this internet is NOT what they seem. And I've also learned that if you are a private person (as I am) a lot of lies are made up to fill in the blanks. You'd be amazed what I've heard people say about ME!!!
