They buried you (today),
the naked trees locked
arms, building a fortress
against the winds that
blow harsher these
somber times,

the hanging branches
caught the mourners'
tears, along with mine,
as i bowed my covered
head, reciting the kaddish  *
for the first time.

they buried you daddy dear,
in a sky draped with grey
and dotted sparrows rejoiced
in autumn's leftover wine,
and i saw you, my l0 foot hero,
now a fragile flowerchild,

they buried you today
and i kissed you goodbye,
as teardrops laced with sorrow
nourished the frozen ground,
promising the crocus again,
though fragile as the
dreams of springtime now

* kaddish.....jewish prayer said for the dead

I am truly sorry for your loss, my friend, but this is a magnificent work and I'm sure he's smiling down as he reads it over and over - knowing you love him so.

My heart to you...

Michelle, you did your father a great justice today...

Hello Michele

It was through the loss of my father that made me discover writing and brought me here to PIP.  I can't tell you how much your words moved me and made me remember my own experience.  The tears are still flowing as I write to you now.  Your words were so beautiful beyond compare and I hope your writing brings you comfort as it has done for me over the past three years.

Just beautiful. I am sorry for your loss and happy for the peace that you made before he passed on, That is truly a gift as is your heartfelt poetic expression.

When loving words are gently said
The one departed goes on ahead.
We left behind may weep and miss
the one who's now at peace and bliss.

This is a very touching and beautiful write.  My dad died when I was in my twenties, and I miss him still in many ways. Thank you for your expression of caring.  Ken
