At a portage, near the confluence
Of two tributaries:
The older one
Has given up its rapids,
But still runs silent, runs deep
I do not find it weak,
Nor view its slowing as death;
And so by memory, honor it
Retaining the much
It has taught me,
That is vesseled in its depth.
*
My resolution is this:
To remember its lessons,
Knowing soon it will dump
Itself, seeming  lost
Into the basin,
Of all past years;
All spaces
*
retreat, but time advances,
Finds and fills
All basins
Overflows, and rills
Onward, never still...
A ghostly fluid;
That detects the hole of new years eve
Decants...
And becomes
A new-years, first day.

Happy New Year to all.....:-)

makes me think of the whole "growing up" aspect of life,,,we grow older,,steady in our beliefs and ways,,,,,move mountains,,,maybe change the course a few times along the way,,,but, in the end,,,it's all dumped out with everyone elses,,,to blend as it will
very nice read
Michelle

I wish all could find the true happiness I have found,,in the eyes of Mike

You just have a way of speaking such truth, and here again, a lesson to learn.  Wonderful poetry as usual, and I truly enjoyed it.

Boy!  Speaking of dumping into basins makes me wanna go get Balladeer's and Toerag's poems and print them out!

Nicely written metaphor, Ice.
