On A Distant Hill                        For T.H.

Freedom comes in many forms
free to plant, free to burn
playing god we lose it, bind ourselves
free to envy, free to love
witless to an artificial codex
                        leaves like parchment flaming
casting out gods or demons we lose
                        where the fire burned hottest
even the ability to discern, to defend
the hills’ skin naked to the storm
to feel the blessing when it comes
                        stumps like black wet blisters
for it is discernment not intelligence that draws
the flood striving down boulder slopes
a bolder line down between free and bound
even as the fires rage unabated
as if standing on a distant hill, safe from the thrust
there stands one on a distant hill
safe from the arrogant renderings of whim and time
                        stands nonchalant, conjuring rain
able to stand nonchalant, conjuring rain.

I see your muse is alive and well!

I read your words three ways, once being down the right, then to the left,  and as a whole......that's pretty impressive!!!

It's deep, almost gothic, which goes to show your versatility!

The word "codex" has three meanings.... depending on what you want it to mean, it is a tablet for rough drafts, it is a religious tome, and it is a stump where prisoners are bound.

I will always remain impressed
with a poet who will intertwine
poems with substance...
and heart

Like Blues, I've read this as 3 distinct poems... and whether separate or together, the result is striking... your images sear the senses... and your wisdom waits for those who'll heed.

Brilliant work, my friend... yes!

Deeply written, it is inspiring. Another marvel and foothold on the summoning of thoughts and implementation of vision.
