somehow I awoke
to find you sleeping
just out of reach

behind space

sleep, when it comes, is a dark
place but I can feel you,
like half-light, in the dawn
when the solitary bird sings
at 4am

that’s condemnation again
distance and waiting -
this wait a deeper one
than any melancholic
charade

I thought of you in the theatre
last night, away in a cold
land, while humidity drained me,
and my reaching drained out
into the quiet air, so quiet, no one
dared breathe as the beacons
in middle-earth were
lit over mountains I can lay
claim to, here in the worlds-end

your voice is melody
say anything, anything and I’ll
rest there, ocean-held, like yesterday
at Orewa, under the sun and
cumulus clouds

drifting

Was just stopping by on my way to bed and thought I saw the name Severn. What a shock, you post so very little poetry anymore. Too tired to give you a proper reply- but I promise to try later. At first reading, it certainly doesn't disappoint. K poems are always great poems.

Hi K,

your writings used to leave me with a tingling sense of melancholy and resignedness (is that such a word?)...i find that your more recent writings evoke a more optimistic feeling of the-poet's-cautious-but-still-daring-to-hope ...just wondering if you have noticed and like this evolution? hmmm...

Surprisingly, i have no pesky questions for you. haha, i must have improved

i like these lines:
in the dawn
when the solitary bird sings
at 4am

and these:
the beacons
in middle-earth were
lit over mountains I can lay
claim to, here in the worlds-end

it's this sort of little intriguing details that you sprinkle (quite liberally sometimes, to the confusion of the reader ) all over your poetry that makes it exceptional and distinct from the rest

Okies...personal replies since I've been 'nagged' heh..

Jamie - you and I both know what this means, so thank you for your reply, because, well because. Here I am again, my friend, on the long road. And they're NOT always great sheesh...~poke~ hugs...thank you.

MLP - thank you...I know you know etc etc...sigh. 'Love Is Ridiculous' - lets write it soon ok?

Midnite - well, recently, something happened that has enabled me to write, if tentatively, so who knows haha...thank you...

C? - I'm sure you know more about poetry than you think...grins (ack, did I just say grins??? sorry lol)...anyway, thank you, I appreciate your words...

Heeeeello Mr Nag, er I mean Another K - 'more recent writings'? snort, yeah all two of them! Anyway, how be you? Nice to catch up again...

'poet's-cautious-but-still-daring-to-hope'...well that's definitely present in this poem, that's for sure. Like the evolution? It's scary to feel this way, and to write this way - to be blunt. Shrug, life's a cliff...

Where are my pesky questions dammit! I'd relied on you for that grrrrrrr...j/k...

thank you for your reply, you know I always appreciate your input...big HUGS...

Hey Ethel...hugs back, thanks for reading...I'm glad you could feel it..I certainly can lol...

Mmy - god, I don't know. Honestly, this extended writer's block is a killer...it'll take a lot of change to get me there again I think, who knows...thank you sweetie...(oh and repeat what I said to J - no they're not...)

Raph - well...just read the first two again k? And I hope that today when you sat in your own theatre and saw the beacons you knew precisely why that image found its way into this poem...I'm sure you would have, it's like that...thank you for your reply, that honesty that I love.

Kari - blush...thank you, you're such a sweetheart and always so supportive of whatever drivel I pour out...like I said to Maree though...could be awhile...Heart-hugs...

Ms Shadows...how are you?? Trust you're well...thank you for stopping in hon...

Maureen - glad it found you today then   Thanks muchly...

Sy! - Hey you! How goes life sir? And a very happy new year to you as well..even though I'll beat ya lmao...hugs and thank yous...

K

I know this waking...every night of the world I know it. Close can be so far, and distance sometimes is merely space with no separation at all.

Oh Ed, yes I know. Distance is more than a length of miles, and sometimes...sometimes a length of miles means NOTHING at all...yes, I know indeed. Big hugs, thank you for replying...

Ah! What a pleasure... I feel quite lucky with the fact that I returned here after a gap of more than a month, perhaps... and am able to read one of your writes... that's a great thing, I tell you.

sudhir
p.s. ... and perhaps it is me, but by 'theatre' did you mean a movie hall or a performance arts place? I thought of a movie hall and that you were watching some part of LOTR (possibly III) ...

Suddy! Yay...yes! It is indeed...when the beacons for Gondor are lit and the cameras take one soaring over the mountains...it's amazing, I found it quite profound. The whole theatre stopped breathing it seemed. So nice to see you again my friend...hugs and stuff

Nancy - thank you for your very kind words...and may I say the same in regards to the new year..

Severn,

I love the dreaminess and emotion that your poem evokes in me."

your voice is melody
say anything, anything and I’ll
rest there, ocean-held, like yesterday
at Orewa, under the sun and
cumulus clouds

drifting"

It is a wistful reminder of tender touching moments of introspection that we often lose sight of.

"sleep, when it comes, is a dark
place but I can feel you,
like half-light, in the dawn
when the solitary bird sings
at 4am"

Wonderful poetry, open and tender, tender.
