"A test of what is real
is that it is hard and rough…
Joys are found in it, not pleasure.
What is pleasant belongs to dreams."
Simone Weil...
*
Icefishermen, Mid December
*
Wind north west,
Fifteen to twenty
In a battle, above
With a warmer breeze.
The south-easter,
Is pinned down
And bleeding,
Frozen rain pellets
On hard-eldorado
Cold-metal;
Regardless, below...
Prospectors keep digging,
Round holes in ice
Not ground.
*
Spectators honk by
On the lakeside highway.
Cushioned dreamers
In heated cars,
Driving towards pleasure.
They do not understand:
Our intentions are not gold
Not fish, but a celebration
Of joy, and our object
Is not to show Macho;
But to only live real
In the time we are given...
And by this feel more alive.

ice...I understand this elemental need...you explain it well in this vivid poem.  Merry Christmas!

Very beautifully told. The connection to Nature sometimes is demanding, but surely always rewarding ... with that feeling of joy. A primordial need maybe.

(smiles) Yay! Oh Ford, I agree with you and Simone so much, dearest friend, I always love going fishing with my grandpa every year and it is not the rare catching of a fish that brings joy to our hearts but sitting there by the lake together and bonding in heart, yay! (big angel hugs) God Bless You, sweet friend, this is so beautifully heartwarming, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ford, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
