My street is alight with holiday cheer
but my house is dark again this year
no icicle lights hanging from the eaves
no elves peeking between oak leaves

The glow of a tree in windows shine
but in other houses, not in mine
there is no holiday magic for me
no lights, no tinsel, no Christmas tree

Festivities echo in crisp night air
still I do not long this year to share
It’s quiet that my heart needs tonight
to find the glow of my Inner Light

I seek to find the ornament of me
to find the inner Christmas tree
the memories of tinsel, garland and stars
of candy canes and Hershey bars

A doll dressed up all in lace so white
the excitement of this special night
the child I was seeks again to dance
to throw off caution and take a chance

So I think of days and gifts of my past
wondering how they flew by so fast
I smile in fondness of each memory
laying gently beneath my heart's Christmas tree

Oh...Sharon?...

this one hits close to home...

"It’s quiet that my heart needs tonight
to find the glow of my Inner Light"

Your 'inner light' is shining brightly
in this write, my friend

May your inner child find joy in dancing
around the beautifully decorated
Christmas tree of your heart...

Happy Holidays to you, my friend...
Hugs...

"So here I am with pockets full of good intentions
But none of them will comfort me tonight..."

Lovely poem -- true, true. ...I'll make a stab..

Christmas Tree

For years we used an artificial
though it felt quite superficial.
Conservation was the reason
for the choice of the season.

Two years ago perspective changed
when questions round that choice did frame?
When wondering why would anyone
sing Christmas carol "Oh, Tanenbaum,"

A still small voice whispered:

The Tanenbaum young and green
died to remind you and me
just like the Manger's Gentle Guest.
This year, our tree is fresh.

Though it hurts and seems cruel
to chop down a tree,
it's the hurting that reminds
what the babe did for me.  See?

PdV, this one I know full well, yet never found the words during those times when there was naught save me and memories. And now those times are part of the memories as well, lined up like so many dominoes, awaiting the first tap of remember.

I would spent years trying to write something like this.

It is special.

Sharon, some of the memories under our
heart Christmas trees are ver beautiful,
aren't they? This brought back some of mine.

Very beautiful.
There comes a time when we love to remember quietly, at our own risk though.
Thank you for sharing your inner light... that is one of Christmas' most precious gifts.
Love, Margherita
