in the shadows

Sitting on the coattails
of the highway,
breathing hard,
I'm looking down the Independence Pass
through thirteen thousand feet
of cold thin air.

The golden aspen
in the high clear wind
toss their leaves against the clouds
like your curls on my pillow,
rhythmically they quake
with a calm expectant tension;

leaning at the hip,
pressed by the wind,
impatiently they quiver
awaiting the long hard embrace
of winter's snow;
it's been eight thousand miles
since I left your bed.

Prismatic...
and sharp in imagery.
Just beautiful, icebox.  Thank you!

So many miles and yet the image is fresh and clear and you take me there.  Another wonderful memory!

This was written in 1978?

How long have you been hiding from the world?

That's a long stretch of time and space, icebox, but this write proves distance does not make one forget.

(smiles) Oh my gosh, I'm so happy you unearthed this wonderful classic to share to us all, sweet friend, being a Colorado resident, I have seen Independence Pass and it is very visually poignant! Hey, have you ever been to Hanging Lake? That's the perfect place to meditate and rejuvenate your mind, near Glenwood Springs! (big hugggssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
