The Lesser Of Two

Yesterday I escaped the insanity
of shadows that follow me throughout,
forced my eyes to close to the old,
keyed into the sights and sounds that overtake
and spiraled me into an era
of planks and finery, picturing him
replaced by another.

I could pretend in those darkened moments
that it was all or nothing,
embrace my desires, yet break free
the second the lights brightened,
their intensity clearing my thoughts
and the way to end the lesser
of the illusions in my life.

I love this little poem!

And the imagery really shines:

"and spiraled me into an era
of planks and finery"

That's about as good as kinetic imagery can get.
