When someone reaches out to you
heart in hand...
what do you do?
Accept without reservation?
That would seem to be the easiest choice,
the path of least resistance
on the road to love and happiness.

Have you ever found yourself
empty handed at the end of that journey,
when you've not stepped back,
not allowed more space and time
between offer and acceptance?

Do you accept too soon?
Or reject altogether
out of fear of losing?
Rejection would be an impossible
scenario for my heart.
And maybe that's why
I've some times been caught
holding only my own heart
in shaky hands,
after having it handed back.

It's so hard to know... and even when you think you know, you still end up clutching your rejected heart sometimes... Well written, my friend! *S*

Yes, I have.

In fact on one level I just did -- today, this very morning. This poem eases it, at least such of it as can ever be eased.

My sentiments exactly Kacy

Rejection would be an impossible
scenario for my heart.
And maybe that's why
I've some times been caught
holding only my own heart
in shaky hands,
after having it handed back.
