She Dreamed Of Flight (An Acrostic Sestina)

She lived trapped in a gilded cage
Open doors only a dream
Mystical the clouds for her
Eyes forever on the skies
Transfixed with images of flight
Inspired by her damaged wings

Molted feathers from her wings
Encased the bottom of her cage
She wondered if she’d ever fly
Ever realize her dreams
Venture high up in the skies
Enchanting clouds surrounding her

Night after night, dreams came to her
As she longed to spread her wings
Soft, misty visions of blue skies
Intrigued her there within her cage
Nights haunted by these longing dreams
Gave rise to days with hopes of flight

Lost in images of flight
Each day became a quest for her
Forever reaching for her dreams
Envisioned flight on flawless wings
Avenging life within her cage
Transcending bars to reach the skies

Harbinger to freedom’s skies
Enraptured in her quest for flight
Resigned no more inside her cage
Songs of reproach emit from her
Enticing her to spread her wings
No longer lost within her dreams

Outward now, beyond her dreams
Unleashed she rises in calm skies
Gracefully on outstretched wings
High in the cloudy air she flies
Taken once, freedom’s now hers
Outside the bounds of her own cage

Far away, now, from her gilded cage
Life had once been cruel to her
Yet through her dreams, she learned to fly

For those who don't wish to figure it out, the acrostic is: Sometimes even a single feathers enough to fly

Beautiful!!  This is absolutely enrapturing.  It is so amazing to see freedom expressed in such a floetic way.  Your words are liberating as well as the vertical message you relayed.  These words touch me and give me hope that one day I, too, will be free

When you come home,
you do it with your usual
gentle, quiet, grace...
and bring
all of your charm.

...and thank you for this.

And some days a single feather can be just enough could knock you over too.
Ruth, with this I revisited an image in my mind of you on the ferry writing, and that is a good thing.  Beautiful this was m'friend.

Splendored grace of angel's wing,
in beauty hear the muses sing.
Aglaia sings her song on high,
As free at last doth feather fly.

Thank you all for your kind words...sometimes a single feather's enough to fly, but a good updraft helps too...thanks for being the wind beneath my wings
