i was wondering if anyone understood these poems because i dont and i was just making sure i wasnt the only one i mean these things dont make sense to me so i want to know what they were on or what was going on thanks here are some examples let me know if you can say what they are saying 1.Well versed in the Buddha way, I go the non-Way Without abandoning my Ordinary person’s affairs. The conditioned and Name-and-form, All are flowers in the sky. Nameless and formless, I leave birth-and-death. Layman P’ang (740-808) no idea 2. Nobly, the great priest deposits his daily stool in bleak winter fields Buson 3. Eaten alive by lice and fleas -- now the horse beside my pillow pees 4.Lightning: Heron's cry Stabs the darkness Basho 5.first on a track night spider webs catch my face Yao Feng (Tasmania) 6.bang! robin feathers stuck to the frosty window -- just the cat's tail moves 7.Along the roadside, blossoming wild roses in my horse’s mouth 8.Summer grasses: all that remains of great soldiers’ imperial dreams and last but not least my personal favorite 9. Old pond, frog jumps in - splash Basho |

Zen is a strangely fascinating art...you could ask Local Rebel or MidniteSun, even by email. I have no clue |

(sigh) I am not quite familiar with the beautiful art of Zen but these poems truly made me smile, sweet friend, there are certainly some who know of Zen that would be fascinated with these moreover, I love these, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton I don't need no proof when it comes to God and truth |

greco, Look into the history of Haiku (Japanese poetic form, more or less) and you will find these and others like them. Buson and Basho are considered Haiku Masters. This form is not generally thought of as a part of Zen. You may be confusing the Zen Koan with the Haiku poem (both worth study). -glider- [This message has been edited by wandering glider (11-16-2003 12:22 AM).] |

LOL at the inked reply, but it IS Zen. The suggestions to search the net for Zen and Haiku both are excellent, and wandering glider's reply points to a pathway that can bring you close to an understanding of these different but often overlapping thoughts and forms. Most Zen writings encourage you to immerse yourself in the MOMENT. For me, each small unit of Time comes into sharper focus, and when I am in Zen mode, I more readily observe the full picture of what is going on. I acknowledge my present feelings and reactions to everything, while keeping a 'safe' distance from the emotions and thoughts of all other 'happenings' so that I can truly experience this moment. But this is only one aspect of Zen that I enjoy. In Zentime, your mind and heart stay open and fresh, hopefully more receptive. As for Haiku? It is a poetic form, as is Senryu, both of which are short, usually three line 5-7-5 syllable format, Haiku having a nature theme, Senryu more general. And while they may also have a Zen theme, it isn't a requirement. LOL, and this reply is far too wordy to be a Zen reply. Have some fun learning these different poetic formats! |
