Blue-grey, the hues of death that so enwrapped as
shadows of darkness fell before the now chilling feet
as this moment becomes but an ellipse,
a pause in the sentence of life.

I felt the breeze of her as she left her lifeless
shell.  Simply a mere blink lay between a last
beat...a last breath...and silence. My eyes staring,
a captured breath straining against lungs
that ached to scream, to cry.  Hoping to see yet
another flicker of life....now gone.

Strange, this messenger who rests a hand upon
our shoulder each waking day.  One who
shuffles the dune of our stage and stares
incessantly at the hour glass.  He who walks
without eyes, for eyes might give the puzzle’s
last piece away,  allowing a soul to shirk and
evade the reaper’s felling scythe.

Soon,  the leaves again shall bud the stems,
and a ring shall grow beneath the rugged
bark.   Waiting, ever waiting...for a
breath to feed the hunger of babes...as
sands slowly sift our days...and a learned hand
rests, steadying a weary  walk against the stone’s
trip.  Until an eye's blink of time.

"I felt the breeze of her as she left her lifeless shell."

Both professionally, and personally, I have experienced that far too many times. You have captured that moment exquisitely.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Barry, your poetry always hits home, sweet friend, it speaks in so many volumes and takes us down like a submarine deep into the opaline depths of human emotion! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Barry, as with all your poetry, this is beautiful, and
each word written with expertise. I'm going
to keep it to study. Hope it's okay.

You connected us well. This type of conveyed communication is very hard to do, and you did a nice job with it. Nice write, enjoyed the read.

I start thinking like this, and seeing the mortality. It makes me sad. Well said, well written.
