Brass Ring

A young girl moves slowly down
a musty darkened hall.
She walks into a tiny room,
her shelter, her haven.
She sits beside a rumpled bed,
the faded color of delicate rose.
She turns on the lamp
and
a shadowed glow fills the tattered old room.
Beside the bed is her favorite book of flowers
and
an album of treasured pictures of the past.
She rests her aching head
on a perfumed pillow of lavender
and
slowly....... smoky mists invade her tired mind.
Quiet breathing fills the tiny room,
dreams begin swirling
on the wings of heated breath.
Two rings, representing two sisters,
fill her nightly dreams.
Ten small pieces of glass on each,
but one has five chips missing.
As she slowly awakes,
her face dampened with tears.
She gazes at the tiny brass ring.
Six chips missing..........
Symbolizing another year passing into an endless
passage of looking, hoping,
and pain filled searching.
Six years since her sister disappeared.
Six years of lonely emptiness and heartbreak.
A lifetime of hanging on to a dream
and
a priceless brass ring.

No! This is not based on anything in my life.
A friend of mine was given a brass ring  as a token gift and one of the stones fell out.
Then I started writing and this is what I come up with. My friend, Shy Lady, is the one who received the gift.
Just my imagination running wild.
Love and hugs
