Spotted and majestic,
he paced the floor,
gaze locked on mine
in animal intent.
I stared back,
knowing full well
that wild creatures do not
appreciate the perceived challenge
of direct eye contact.
But I could not help myself,
and the safety of the fence between
emboldened me.
He snarled, I responded in kind,
skin tingling and alert.
I felt his hot breath
moistening the air,
as he smelled the scent
of the unreachable prey.
I knew that in the wild
he would have had me
for lunch.
The Snow Leopard
and I each acknowledged
this encounter from
different points of view,
one frustrated,
one relieved,
as we shared this moment
in time.

Excellent Kacy,  so true the emotions of the
hunter and the hunted....

Thanks, Barry. An afternoon at the zoo makes me think about the laws of survival.

Great contrasts of emotion
and a very cool poem, Kacy~

Thanks Bluesy! My daughter and I spent a few hours at the Denver Zoo, and we each had a 'communication moment' For me, it was with the snow leopard, and for her, it was with a six week old baby giraffe.

Respecting nature, oh yes indeed....I felt as though I were right there....I would've jumped at first snarl....regardless of the fence...(lol)

Will the wind ever remember the names
it has blown in the past with
its crutch its old age and its widsom
it whispers no this won't be the last
