Falling Out Of Rhythm

Eyes that see the hawk,
so high it’s just a speck
amidst the clouds and sun,
tears from the smoke where a forest died
and a bird flew in circles,
round and round till it fell from the sky,
dead in the spot where stood a tree,
a nest of babies,
a century’s worth of days and nights,
memories . . . memories,
now turned to ash.

Eyes that see the spiraling demise,
the collision of dancing hearts
falling out of rhythm,
missing the beat,
circling with fiery breathe,
where once they merged as one . . .
memories . . . memories,
turning to ash.

It’s not the distance,
but the fall that hurts,
the lack of a place to land,
so they circle round and round
till they fall dead in the spot
where once they loved and lived,
in a perfect world of days and nights,
memories . . . memories,
now turned to ash.

"circling"
why do we do that?
wings locked in place
caught in an endless updraft

Oh, James, this one hurts. I could see the flames from the fires burning the trees as I read...just like I saw on television earlier. Very sad.

As I read this one, I thought about how every creature knows it's place, it's home and it's rightful yearning.
A restless, and wistful piece. Beautiful.

Hello Jimmy...Home is more than a place, it's a state of mind.  A very thought filled poem.  Appropriate for my state at this time.

(big hugggsssssssss) God Bless You, dearest friend, it aches my heart deeply to hear of these fires devastating too much and the captions of those victimized in the fires in the news! (sad sigh) I pray for the rainmaker to come end these fires, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet James, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Hello James

You painted a vivid yet sad picture that was so well written.

Take care......Sue
